A fine 18th century portrait of a young soprano castrato, possibly Adamo Solzi. Neapolitan School, c.1760.
The singer in this portrait has been identified as the soprano castrato, Adamo Solzi, who made his debut in 1766 and was active until 1794. Solzi sung a number of operas by Mozart. The music manuscript he holds has been identified as Italian composer Gian Francesco de Majo’s setting of Antigona, performed in 1768 at the Teatro Alibert, Rome.
