Circle of Francesco Fanelli (1590-1653). A rare 17th century bronze figure of a rearing horse. Modelled according to designs attributed to the workshop of Fanelli. Of superb patina, with exquisite musculature detail and hand-finishing to the horse’s mane. Solid, heavy gauge casting. Raised on an early, and possibly original, waisted plinth painted with faux lapis lazuli panels and parcel gilt. The centre of the plinth is inset with solid sienna marble. A high quality and impressive example of its type.
