Circle of Nicolò Roccatagliata (1560-1629). A rare early 17th century Venetian bronze figural andiron depicting Bacchus. Here the god of wine is shown in contrapposto, wearing an elaborate garland of vine leaves and holding a cup of wine. The heavy gauge bronze is beautifully patinated and of excellent scale and presence. Raised on a later marble base.
