£4,850.00

A fine & rare early 18th century walnut and marquetry upholstered side chair in the manner of James Moore, c.1720. Beautifully drawn with ‘Roman’ legs.

There are several dated examples for this style of leg and foot, particularly a set of chairs (c.1725) at Houghton Hall and a closely dated set (probably before 1726) made for Chicheley Hall, Bedfordshire and now at Montacute, Somerset. A remarkably similar chair from a set of 8 made for Kedleston Hall (and now in the Collection of the Crab Tree Farm Museum, Illinois) is illustrated on page 38 of "100 British Chairs", edited by Adam Bowett, Antique Collectors Club, 2015.

Measures - 111cm H x 59cm W x 67cm D.
