A rare early 18th century walnut stool, c.1720. The bifurcated legs with acanthus carved knees terminating in pad feet. Possibly Thomas Roberts or family. Newly upholstered in Claremont Amelia crackle damask.
A remarkably similar stool with identical legs incorporating bifurcated knees (see image) was offered at Sotheby's, ‘The Age of Oak and Walnut' Sale, 28th September 2004, Lot 63. (estimate £15,000-20,000).
