A large 18th century Chinese export armorial charger
A large 18th century Chinese export porcelain charger, Qianlong period, c.1735. Depicting the coat of arms of the Willes family impaling Broster, surmounted with an Eagle crest above the motto: ‘Tenax Propositi’, (Tenacious of Purpose). The charger decorated with an ‘anhua’ lotus flower and scrolling tendril rim. This charger was likely commissioned as a set of exportware to celebrate the marriage of two families. It has at some point been broken, riveted and re-stuck.
